Introduction

SQL Server is Microsoft’s latest major release of the SQL Server product. It serves as a hybrid data platform with advancements in security, performance, availability, and data virtualization.

This release is designed to help organizations modernize their data infrastructure. SQL Server offers new cloud-connected capabilities for hybrid data scenarios.

Organizations can enhance application performance without changing code, protect data integrity with blockchain features, and improve scalability and availability for critical data.

Developers can create new applications that connect relational data with data lakes containing parquet files and delta tables using Azure or S3-compatible storage providers.

This module covers the following capabilities:

  • Deployment options and differences in SQL Server 2022: Learn various deployment methods and differences from previous SQL Server releases.
  • Cloud connected scenarios: Discover hybrid capabilities for connecting to Azure for managed disaster recovery, near real-time analytics, and security assessments.
  • Built-in query intelligence: Explore new engine capabilities that enhance performance without code changes and provide deep insights into query performance.
  • Security, scalability, and availability: Understand new core database engine features that enhance security, scalability, and availability.
  • Data virtualization and object storage: Learn to access data lakes using built-in connectors for Azure and S3-compatible object storage providers, and utilize these providers for backup and restore of SQL Server databases.
  • Language enhancements for developers: Discover new T-SQL language features that help developers build new applications leveraging SQL Server.
